Professional?

Two days ago, prof Bernotas told us about why he became a prof instead of writing analysis to defend monopoly action for some companies. Although I don't believe in all of them, but I feel a little bit sad about it.

As he said, most of his knowledge learned from his Phd are not really useful for his job because the audience didn't study Economics. Therefore, every clam, analysis or forecast he made doesn't need to be complicated or even accurate. All he needed is making them simple, believable.

I agree with him that it such a pain in the ass when the others are not able to understand what you did. It sucks when you spend some effort to accomplish something and you have to spend an extra time to explain what you have done again.

When no one is able to understand, all you can do is "down grade" yourself to make things become reasonable to the others. Even though you got a Phd about Econometric, you may turn out running a naive linear  regression for your analysis in your report. The only difference between a person who has phd and a undergrad student is the Phd sounds more trust-worthy.

No matter how much we study, we may eventually be the same. It's so unmotivated to have higher academic achievement.
